Kim Joyce
Kim Joyce (born Kimberly Wilburn) is
an American R&B singer, songwriter and
producer. Her desire to create music and
sing started early with Kim singing at her
father’s church in Detroit, Michigan. Her
enthusiasm led to piano lessons that allowed
Kim to accompany and assist
her mother.
A student of music, Kim committed
herself to experimenting with and
mastering production techniques,
including training herself on the MPC and
Motif workstations. She sequenced her
compositions in advanced software such
as Reason while she continued to build
on her vocal foundation.
Prior to launching her musical career
full-on, Kim attended Ohio State on a
full athletic scholarship for basketball.
On top of earning her degree, Kim was
awarded Big Ten Defensive Player of the
Year while her team captured the
conference title. During college
she performed as lead vocalist
for the alternative outfit LaQuest.
During this period Kim
the guitar, to her live music
also added
toolkit.
At this point in her solo career Kim has
been awarded: Spotlight Detroit (2006)
and Ohio State Heritage Festival Talent
Show (2006). She has appeared at the
Columbus Red, White and Boom
Celebration (2008), Detroit Rib and
Soul Festival (2006) and the Chicago
Caribbean Festival (2007). In addition,
she has opened for Eric Roberson, Brian
McKnight, Lil’ Wayne, Pleasure P and PJ
Morgan to name a few.
“In this Life, I was blessed with so many
talents. I know God giveth and He taketh
away, therefore I make it my job is to
maximize all my blessings and to touch
and share them with as many people as
possible.” With a voice that has been
compared to India Arie and Lauryn Hill,
no mistake should be made; Kim Joyce
has a unique sound and distinct look
that allows her to shine and never be
forgotten.
