Purple Smoke Project - Calm Down

Mike (Smoke) grew up in northeast Ohio (Lakewood, Cleveland, and Maple Heights).  He was influenced by hip-hop at a very early age by an older brother.  Being raised by a single mother, Mike searched for what was missing in his life and found that in music.  While in Streetsboro, Ohio attending high school, Mike got his first drum machine and began making beats and writing songs.  Mike, and then friend Puff, wrote a couple of songs together but only recorded one professionally. The group made up of Puff and Smoke split after both became involved in legal troubles.  Mike continued  recording solo tracks but never released them professionally.  While partying in Kent, Ohio, Mike met and joined up with a local band named ‘Norse Law’ which was a mix between Viking black metal and hip-hop.  Norse Law was signed to Latticesphere Records and the DMG out of California.  They released one album before it was pulled from stores.  After talks of a major tour with Staind and Papa Roach fell through, Mike gave up on Norse Law.  Feeling at his lowest, Mike got a call from a high school friend who was working on his own musical project consisting of  Fat Rat, Tali Demon, and Guido.  Together, they became known as ‘Group Rehab’.  Group Rehab played many shows with artists such as ‘Bone-Thugs-n-Harmony’, ‘Tech n9ne’, ‘Kottonmouth Kings’, ‘Afroman’, and many more.  As Group Rehab they also won an MC contest at the 2004 Gathering of the Juggalos.   Winning free studio time, they recorded 8 songs but they were never released on an album.  Also around this time, Tali Demon and Smoke recorded a song with Grammy Award-winning artist ‘Bizzy Bone’. Problems inside the group caused the group to split, but till this day Mike continues producing, performing, writing, recording, mixing, mastering and sharpening his skill.

John Olen Hayes, Formerly Known as "The Last Rose" and now known as Purple Haze, was born March 25th 1988 to John & Marvetta Hayes. He was raised by only his father until he was 16, due to his step-mother’s alcohol abuse and his parents divorce. Growing up, he was in and out of trouble due to domestic issues and frequent changes of residence and schools. During all of the drama growing up he realized he had a strong heart for music. Haze started playing guitar and singing by the age of 8, he was in his first band, (Innocent Youth), at age 13. In time, John found that he was better off on his own, only to find a “partner in crime”. John and bass guitarist, Dakota Raymond, started the two piece group called “Amerse” later to be called “The Last Rose”. The Acoustic duo played their first show just 3 days after even meeting. Time was nothing to Haze as he completely taught Dakota how to play and sing from scratch. Due to the relocation of the bands bass player, Haze was indeed “The LAST Rose”, carrying on the tradition of the original meaning of the beginning of “Amerse” and its meaning, “To punish”. Haze did just that. He punished music, including the sound. To assure that the music was unique and not so cliché’. Now under management through “Meltinpot Management” and becoming more and more recognized by many different artists, Haze has also found home to “Undergrind Records” Collaborating with Undergrinds rap artist Haze found a new itch. A few songs made up of acoustic rock and rap drove the fans crazy. Emerging from “The Last Rose” soon became “Purple Haze”! Haze is now on top of his game with fans of all genres. Purple Haze started out originally as a metal/Acoustic Rock Musician, equipped with skills that NO other local musician carried. The Decision to start rapping was basically a case of spontaneous Combustion at its finest.
